The Measure of True Wealth: How Pacesetters Christian University Inspires Faith, Generosity, and Purpose

Adapted and inspired by the teachings of Dr. Randy Alcorn, integrated with the mission of Pacesetters Christian University, Houston, Texas.

A Kingdom Perspective on Possessions

In a world that equates success with status and prosperity with possessions, Pacesetters Christian University (PCU) calls believers to a higher understanding of wealth — one rooted not in accumulation, but in faith, stewardship, and eternal impact.
Through its programs in Christian higher education in Houston, PCU teaches that education and discipleship are inseparable: true learning transforms the mind, but true discipleship transforms the heart.

At PCU, students are challenged to see money not as an end but as a means — a sacred trust given by God to serve others, to advance His kingdom, and to cultivate lives that glorify Him. Every resource, talent, and opportunity becomes a tool of faith-based learning and spiritual responsibility.

This philosophy echoes a timeless truth Jesus shared: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

The American Church and the Words of Christ

The modern Church, particularly in the West, often measures spirituality through comfort rather than conviction. Many believers quietly compare themselves to others — thinking, “I’m not as materialistic as most Christians.” Yet, as Dr. Randy Alcorn observed, that’s like saying, “Most Christians worship twelve idols; I only have four.”

At Pacesetters Christian University, students are reminded that comparison is never the standard — Christ is. Jesus spoke more about money and possessions than He did about faith and prayer combined. Nearly 15% of His recorded words addressed how we handle what God has entrusted to us.

Why? Because money reveals what we truly value. It is a mirror of the heart. PCU’s mission is to develop leaders who understand this — individuals who resist the cultural current of consumerism and live instead as stewards of God’s grace.

Fruit in Keeping with Repentance

In Luke 3, John the Baptist called believers to “produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” When the people asked what that meant, his response was not abstract or mystical. It was practical — “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none.”
Repentance, he taught, must be visible in generosity.

At PCU, this principle is foundational. True transformation is not merely intellectual; it is ethical, spiritual, and financial. A heart that has encountered God begins to loosen its grip on possessions. Faith-driven generosity becomes the natural overflow of grace.

This is why PCU nurtures a holistic approach to education — one that equips students not just to succeed professionally, but to serve sacrificially. In every lecture hall and chapel, the message is clear: our repentance should reshape how we give, how we lead, and how we live.

A Transformative Work Related to Possessions

Throughout Scripture, genuine encounters with God are often followed by radical generosity. In Acts 2 and Acts 4, early believers shared their possessions freely. In Acts 19, the Ephesian converts burned their occult books — items worth millions by today’s standards — as a public declaration of faith.

Such acts demonstrate that spiritual awakening transforms more than beliefs; it transforms priorities.
At Pacesetters Christian University, this transformation is at the heart of Christian leadership development. Students are taught to see knowledge, wealth, and influence not as personal achievements but as sacred assignments.

Zacchaeus is another example. Once gripped by greed, his encounter with Jesus moved him to restitution and compassion. “Today salvation has come to this house,” Jesus declared. True conversion always leads to visible change — often beginning with how we handle what we have.

A Rich Fool Living the Modern Dream

Jesus’ parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:15–21) paints a haunting picture of misplaced priorities. The man wasn’t condemned for theft or dishonesty; his downfall was self-sufficiency. He said, “I will store up my goods and relax.” It was the ancient version of the American dream — retire early, live comfortably, and enjoy the fruits of labor.

But God’s response was direct: “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded of you.”

At Pacesetters Christian University, students are taught to re-examine the “dreams” that culture sells. True success isn’t about early retirement or material comfort — it’s about eternal investment. The question PCU encourages every student to ask is simple: Am I rich toward God?

When believers store up treasure in heaven — through compassion, service, and faithfulness — they build wealth that time cannot erase.

Statistics on Giving — A Wake-Up Call

Modern statistics on giving reveal a sobering truth: the average evangelical Christian in America gives only 2.5% of their income. During the Great Depression, the national average (among all households, not just Christians) was 3.2%.

These numbers are more than financial data — they reflect a spiritual drought. If giving is a response to grace, then our lack of generosity may indicate how little we understand it.

As missionary David Livingstone once said:

“I will place no value on anything I have or may possess except in relation to the kingdom of Christ.”

At PCU, such wisdom is not merely quoted — it’s embodied. Students learn that Christian higher education is not only about gaining knowledge, but about aligning that knowledge with God’s purpose. Whether a graduate becomes a teacher, engineer, pastor, or entrepreneur, PCU’s vision remains constant: to cultivate leaders who give more than they take and who build more than they consume.

Grace That Gives — The Heart of True Stewardship

The Apostle Paul wrote, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)

Grace gives. It always gives. That is its nature.

At Pacesetters Christian University, this truth defines the heartbeat of every program. From theology to business administration, every course reinforces the conviction that leadership must be grounded in stewardship. True leaders give — their time, their wisdom, their resources — because they have first received abundantly from God.

Paul’s metaphor of lightning and thunder captures this perfectly. God’s grace is the lightning; our giving is the thunder that follows. Without grace, generosity cannot be sustained. Without generosity, grace remains misunderstood.

A Generation That Gives Back

If today’s Church is to reclaim its witness in a materialistic world, it must raise a generation of believers who understand that success and sacrifice are not opposites. They are partners in purpose.

This is the mission that drives Pacesetters Christian University (PCU) — to prepare men and women who live generously, lead courageously, and serve faithfully. In classrooms, online programs, and community initiatives, PCU emphasizes the integration of faith and learning, calling every student to a life of service beyond self.

Every graduate carries this question forward: What am I doing with what God has entrusted to me?
For when we live with open hands, our impact multiplies — not only in dollars, but in souls, in legacies, and in transformed communities.
